What’s your favorite place?

Moms BridgeI have a bridge in Central Park named after me. Well, sort of. Darrell and Katie call it “Mom’s Bridge.” It’s in the southeast corner of the park. The Plaza’s right there.

When my life started to unravel in my early thirties, I sat on the steps of that hotel and cried. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I just had a feeling it would be awful -- and it was.

The Plaza stepsAlmost twenty years later I was back on those steps with my sweethearts. Darrell took the photo you see here. Things were as sweet then as they’d been as scary before. I couldn’t believe the transformation.

Diana Nyad calls Cuba her emblem for living large. New York City is mine. I haven’t finished everything I’ve set out to do with my life, but increasingly the big moments start -- or are celebrated -- within a few blocks of “my” bridge.

What’s your happy place?
